We Are on a Mission To make positive change in the healthcare of the local community
Our mission is to provide accessible and quality healthcare to all individuals in our community through compassionate treatment, impactful outreach programs, and innovative solutions. We aim to make positive changes in the local healthcare system by delivering high-quality care and fostering a culture of preventive care and wellness education.
Our VisionTo distinguish ourselves as a community leader known for meeting the healthcare needs of the entire community through preeminent patient care, teaching programs and redefining health care delivery. The passion of its people and partners in providing quality, innovative care to the patients it serves.
Our facility is located in the village of Noosikitok, nestled in Maili Tisa, Kajiado County, within the Rift Valley region of Kenya. Situated off the Nairobi-Namanga road, our facility serves as a vital healthcare resource for the surrounding community.
Accessibility:The nearest government health center is approximately 30 km away in Namanga town. This distance poses a significant challenge for community members in accessing necessary medical care.
Environmental Context:The area is characterized by a semi-arid climate, where water scarcity is a prevalent issue. The local community relies on livestock rearing as their primary source of income for various needs. Housing in the area is predominantly traditional or basic, lacking proper ventilation and relying on open fires or traditional stoves, leading to an increased risk of respiratory infections.
The population in this region faces multiple health challenges, including low immunity due to dietary constraints and sanitation issues. Access to medical care is particularly difficult for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, pregnant women attending antenatal clinics, postnatal mothers, and other community members. The semi-desert environment, with extreme temperatures, makes long-distance travel challenging, and only a few individuals can afford means of transportation.
The local community faces various challenges that negatively impact their health and well-being. These include the lack or scarcity of water, food scarcity during drought seasons, poor health hygiene and sanitation practices, limited family planning options, lack of basic knowledge to improve living standards, insufficient awareness of the nutritional importance of a balanced diet, early marriages among girls, climate and weather challenges due to an adaptive way of life, unhealthy cultural practices and beliefs, late presentations of sick individuals, female genital mutilation (FGM), and reliance on traditional herbs for healthcare.
We firmly believe in the necessity of providing basic healthcare services in this area, aligning with the government's policy of universal healthcare for all. Our facility aims to address these challenges by ensuring the availability of essential healthcare services and improving the overall health and well-being of the community.
Kajiado County Doctor to Population Ratio: 1:76,000
The nearest government health facility to Noosikitok is located 30 kilometers away.
The Naomi Kairu Foundation is dedicated to bridging the doctor-to-population gap by bringing healthcare services directly to the people. The clinic initially started as a small semi-permanent structure and has since expanded to include consultation rooms and a pharmacy, catering to the needs of the local community.
Since its inception, the clinic has registered 1800 patients, with an average of 5 patients visiting daily within a 24-hour period. Our current focus is on providing primary healthcare services, including preventive, promotive, curative, and referral services. In the future, we aim to prioritize maternal and child healthcare as well.
As a primary healthcare provider operating at the first level in a hierarchical health system, we play two crucial roles in patient management:
a) First, we diagnose diseases based on symptoms and simple laboratory
tests, providing treatment at the center.
b) Second, we refer patients to the appropriate higher-level health facility
based on their presenting complaints and probable diagnosis.
- To establish a renowned reputation for delivering exceptional, culturally competent healthcare services.
- To consistently achieve the highest levels of patient satisfaction while maintaining cost-effectiveness.
- To prioritize timely access to healthcare services for all patients in need.
- To provide patient-centered care that prioritizes the individual needs and safety of each patient.
- To enhance healthcare and population health through the effective utilization of health information technology.
- To build a foundation of sustainability and continuity to ensure long-term success and impact.
